The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) is India's single entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), AYUSH, and veterinary programs. The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Understanding the exact section structure, question distribution, and marking scheme is the critical first step in planning your study schedule.

NEET 2027 Exam Pattern Overview

NEET UG consists of 200 multiple-choice questions, out of which candidates must attempt 180 questions for a total of 720 marks. The test covers four subject sections: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.

Each subject has two sections: Section A containing 35 compulsory questions, and Section B containing 15 questions from which candidates choose any 10 to answer.

  • Total Duration: 3 hours and 20 minutes (200 minutes).
  • Total Marks: 720 marks.
  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with single correct options.
  • Marking: +4 marks for each correct answer, -1 mark for each wrong answer.

NEET Marking Scheme & Negative Marking Rules

For every correct response, candidates receive 4 marks (+4). For every incorrect response, 1 mark is deducted (-1). Unattempted questions carry zero penalty (0).
